Pack Hikes
Dec 9th & 10th Ramsay-Shockey Open Space in Loveland, Colorado, has a four-mile natural surface trail that climbs gently and then contours around the Pinewood Reservoir. First half of the 4.1 loop will follow the Besant Point Trail which is in the trees and then the Shoshone Trail opens up along the reservoir. This is a great hike to join for a single lap if you are just starting hiking with your Swissy or are building up to the weight and mileage requirements for an official pack hike leg. Please RSVP, we wouldn't want to leave without you. Plan to meet at 7:45 and be hiking by 8:00. 8 Mile back-to-back - 2 Day (16 miles total) There is a $10 day use permit fee. Dec 16th & 17th Lincoln Mountain Open Space in Larkspur, Colorado, has a breathtaking view of Pikes Peak, the Rampart Range, and the eastern plains of Douglas County. The trail system takes visitors through the fields to a forested and rocky pass up to the flat top. From the trailhead, the Lincoln Mountain Trail is 4.2 miles round trip, and the Palmer Divide Ranch Trail is 4.5 miles round trip. The two may be joined together for an 8.3-mile outing. Please RSVP, we wouldn't want to leave without you. Plan to meet at 8 and be hiking by 8:15. Dec 23rd & 24th Black Forest Section 16 is a square-shaped loop in the Black Forest, north of Colorado Springs. The trail is a fairly wide gravel path with very little elevation change. The area is heavily forested, providing some shade during your hike. The hike will complete the loop twice. Please RSVP, we wouldn't want to leave without you. Plan to meet at 7:45 and be hiking by 8:00 Also make sure to visit the club web site for the Pack Hike rules and regulations as well as other great information. Members are encouraged to coordinate & join the hikes either for an official leg or to just get out with your dogs! You do not need to complete all the distance if you are joining for fun!
